Home Connect for Bosch is a global leader in home appliances, and when it came to scaling their IoT ecosystem, they didn’t want to rely on just one or two vendors. They were looking for a long-term technology partner who could bring in senior engineers in Node.js, Swift, and Kotlin, people who wouldn’t just write code, but would take real ownership inside the BSH product teams.

The work was focused on extended services, the digital layer around BSH appliances. This meant joining a large, already well-established organization, working under SAFe, and fitting into existing in-house teams without friction.

That’s easier said than done.

To make this model work, a few real challenges had to be solved:

External engineers had to meet BSH’s technical standards and fit into their corporate processes
The team had to move away from a “just deliver tasks” mindset and start thinking like product owners
Collaboration had to be active and visible, with real participation in cross-team discussions and architecture work

The goal wasn’t to add more people to the project. The goal was to build a team that could work as part of Home Connect from day one.

What we built

Voice control with Alexa

Working alongside the Home Connect team, we integrated Alexa to let users control their home appliances with simple voice commands, making everyday interactions faster and more convenient.

AI Assistant (POC) for appliance programs

As a proof of concept, the team built an AI assistant that helps users choose the right washing machine and dryer modes. It works via both text and voice and guides users to the best program for each situation.

Smart Start and sustainability features

To support more efficient energy use, our engineers implemented Smart Start algorithms that select the most cost-effective and eco-friendly time to run appliances while preserving user habits.

Mobile experience across devices

The product team improved the experience across smartphones and wearables like Apple Watch, making Home Connect easier and more pleasant to use every day.

Home Connect API portal

In parallel, the team supported the Home Connect API platform, enabling both internal and external integrations and powering the “How It Works” logic across the entire ecosystem.

How we became part of the BSH team

Yalantis became a strategic partner for BSH by focusing on team maturity and real integration into the product organization. Instead of stopping at staffing, our team spent time preparing for the client’s environment and learning how Home Connect works. The goal was simple: work as part of Home Connect, not as a separate team.

Step 1

Preparing the team for the Home Connect environment

Instead of treating this as a standard team augmentation setup, Yalantis took a proactive role in getting the team ready for the client’s environment. Before and during the engagement, the engineers adjusted their daily work to match BSH standards and the way Home Connect builds products.

The team also went through additional product-focused training to better understand not just what they were building, but why each feature matters. At the same time, a lot of attention went into how the team works with others. The goal was to make collaboration natural and visible, with engineers actively joining cross-team discussions and architecture sessions instead of waiting for tasks to arrive.

Step 2

Fitting into BSH’s way of working

Once the team was fully onboarded, they started working inside Home Connect’s SAFe setup like any other internal team. They took part in PI planning, system demos, and architecture communities of practice, and followed the same delivery rhythm as the rest of the organization.

To keep quality consistent across teams, the engineers used pair programming and cross-team code reviews as part of their normal workflow. Scrum Masters coordinated the Yalantis unit and made sure the team stayed aligned with the SAFe framework and Home Connect’s corporate ways of working.
